Cisco Secure Client (including AnyConnect) for GNU/Linux
Scope: The Cisco AnyConnect Virtual Private Network (VPN) client allows users to connect to NYU-provisioned services while off campus.
Note: The AnyConncect client for GNU/Linux is only available for Debian-based flavors (Debian, Ubuntu, e.g.) of GNU/Linux.
Installation:
The NYU-provisioned installer (v. 5.1.2.42) is archived on Box for NYU here. To install it from a shell:
cd ~/Downloads
tar xvf cisco-secure-client-linux64-5.1.2.42-predeploy-k9.tar.gz
sudo bash /Downloads/cisco-secure-client-linux64-5.1.2.42/vpn/vpn_install.sh
Alternatively, one can download the installer from here: https://vpnrasb-10wp-new-vl500.nyu.edu/CACHE/stc/3/index.html
Then follow these steps:
Click the Download button to save the installation package:
Locate the file:
cisco-secure-client-linux64-#.#.#####-core-vpn-webdeploy-k9.sh. (Most browsers save files to the a Downloads folder by default):
Open Terminal and run the script:
sudo bash cisco-secure-client-linux64-#.#.#####-core-vpn-webdeploy-k9.sh :
The Cisco Secure Client to /opt/cisco/secureclient and it is now ready for use. To launch using Terminal issue the following command:
gtk-launch com.cisco.secureclient.gui
Create a symbolic link for launcher:
From a GUI: right-click on the desktop icon for the client and select “Add to Favorites”
