Scope: On occasion, users may find that legitimate messages get incorrectly tagged as SPAM, or are blocked outright. Here's general guidance on dealing with both scenarios, as well as a 554 bounce-back.
Message marked as SPAM: If a legitimate message is marked as SPAM (i.e. it automatically appears in your SPAM folder), you can:
- Select the message, then click the "Not Spam" button that appears at the top/bottom of your current view. This automatically moves it to your Inbox.
Message from sender never reaches inbox: If a message from a legitimate sender never reaches your inbox, you can:
- Confirm they have the correct address and did not receive a bounce-back message.
- Add the email address to your "contact list" in Gmail.
- Create a "Never Send it to SPAM" filter:
- Click the gear icon in the upper-right side of the Gmail window, and select "See all Settings"
- Click the "Filters and Blocked Addresses" tab in the top menu, then click "Create a new filter"
- Enter the sender's email address in the "From" field, then click "Create filter"
- Select "Never send it to Spam", and then click "Create filter"
