This documentation contains links to Jabber software downloads and basic instructions on how to configure the client. Jabber allows you to use your NYU Desk phone extension on your Apple, PC, iPhone or Android device. It has the ability to send/receive calls, video chat, screen share, text chat and check voice mail.

Note: In order for JABBER to work on your mobile phone or Chromebook,  NYU Telecom must enable it.

Keep in mind, Telecom processes these requests once a day, so you should have access within 24/48 hours.

Note: The NYU phone number does NOT get forwarded to your cell phone. You must install and use the Cicso Jabber software phone to be able to make and receive calls using your NYU phone.

Configuration

  1. Open Jabber on your device.
  2. When prompted for your username@company.com or username@example.com enter your username in this format:

    YourNetID@JABBER.nyu.edu 
  3. The following screen will ask for your Username and Password, enter YourNetID as your username and your NYU password as your password.
  4. Click Sign in


Making Calls

Search NYU Phone Book

For internal calls, you may type the name of the person you are trying to reach.


Dialing an NYU Extension

When calling extensions within NYU you can just type the 5 digit extension and click call.


Phone Calls Outside of NYU

In order to dial numbers outside of the university switchboard, be sure to dial 9 + country code + number, for example, 9 1 555-555-5555.
